What is Soundsnap?

Soundsnap is the best platform to find and share free sound effects and loops- legally. It is a collection of original sounds made or recorded by its users, and not songs or sound FX found on commercial libraries or sample CD's.

It was originally started by a small group of sound people from all over the world. Our common belief is that sounds and samples should be free for everyone to use in their projects, commercial or not.

Our users are a diverse mix of sound designers, sound artists, web game developers, filmmakers and music producers. Hobbyists and home video makers are welcome too.

What Soundsnap is NOT:

* An alternative to Myspace, Limewire or BitTorrent.
* A place to upload your band's songs or your favourite mp3's. Soundsnap is only for sound effects and loops.
* A place you can upload or find sounds from commercial libraries. All sounds here are original- made or recorded by its users.

We encourage everyone to upload high quality sound FX and samples, helping us make every kind of sound available on Soundsnap.

We are looking for feedback from the community to constantly improve, and we depend on our users for that. So please feel free to leave a recommendation or feedback in the special section of our forum.

Le Festival

Visant la création d´un nouveau pôle touristique à Recife et la diffusion de ce genre populaire, considéré par élitiste par erreur, est né le Recife Jazz Festival ou célébration de la musique improvisative contemporaine.

Héritier de l´influence africaine en Amérique, le jazz est universel. Doux ou électrisant pour qui l´admire, les versions antérieures prouvent la qualité de la croissante présence du public, cherchant ses permanente transformations, ses imprévisibles improvisations et ses possibilités de changements et de mélanges.

Conçue comme un capital multiculturel, notre ville a le coeur empli des amants du jazz et de la musique instrumentale d´avant-garde durant le Recife Jazz Festival. Pendant trois ans, le public a rempli le patio São Pedro, scène dédiée à la culture populaire, avec 3000 personnes par soirée. Cet évenement a eu son point culminant lors de la production de plusieurs projets spéciaux véhiculés par l´unique TV educative de l´état du Pernambouc, la TV Universitaria (TV-U/UFPE). L´événement est depuis lors garanti comme un espace de qualité dans l´agenda et la programmation culturelle de Recife.

Pour sa 4e édition, le Festival s´intensifie, faisant venir des musiciens de divers pays, organisant des marchés, des conférences, des séminaires pour les jeunes talents et rendant hommage à un des précurseurs du genre dans le Pernambouc, comme dans le cas du maître en harmonie, le professeur Nilton Rangel, guitarriste de la contrebande.

Le 4e Recife Jazz Festival aura lieu du 23 au 25 novembre 2007, à la Tour Malakoff et à la Praça do Arsenal, dans le quartier de Recife Antigo. Ce changement de lieu cherche à améliorer la structure, la sécurité et l’accessibilité à l´événement, qui comptera des conférences, un marché de la musique instrumentale, en plus d´une programmation qui s´étendra sur le plan local, mais également national et international.

La rencontre de grands noms du jazz, conférenciers, producteurs, admirateurs et amants de la musique instrumentale improvisative contemporaine se fera naturellement dans le cadre d´un espace adapté pour l’immersion totale dans cet univers.

The composer and singer Fernanda Cabral gives us a personal and intimate space of creation. Her work has brilliant echoes in several projects with great artists such as Pedro Guerra "Solamente Negra", Zezo Ribeiro "Um Coração na Estrada", "Pupila de Agua" - by Casa Incierta theatre play and others...

Among the magic kitchen of the group Wagon Cookin’ she composed the well succeed song "Mar" that gets great dancers like Gilles Peterson, Russ Dewbury o Rainer Trüby and a little bit later also included "Lua"- the next collaboration work in partnership of Fernanda Cabral with ’Wagon Cookin’- in "Glucklich V- A Collection of Brazilian Flavours from the Past and the Present"(2002). On the CD "Asorted Cookin’ (2003) it is included a new version of "Mar" -this time acoustic - with the brothers Garayalde with the guitar player Mario Juaréz - El Pájaro, que había recorrido los escenarios de los clubs de música en vivo junto a la compositora. In June of 2007 is showed in the market "Desejo", the last collaboration of Fernanda in the new work of the Cookin’ "2 Faces".

Last year she recorded with the brazilian producer and DJ Chico Correa the first song of his disc "Eu Pisei na Pedra" remixed by DJ LUCIO K and "Coco de Elevador"on the CD "Chico Correa & Electronic Band" (2006).

Actually she prepares her first disc on her own alternanting studios the studios for recording between Brazil and Spain making up with Chico César, Leo Minax and the producer and piano player Cope Gutiérrez. From this work we wait anxiously for several surprises...

By this time we can listen here to the unpublished song with the lyrics by Chico Cesar and the hand of Suso Saiz in the production.

Saturdays Are For Emails: Chico Correa & Electronic Band’s World View

I try to go thru my emails with a fine-toothed comb when time permits, and Saturday is frequently my best opportunity. How pleased I was to receive an email from Brazilian artist Chico Correa which contained a link to his self-titled album, released by Japanese net label Bump Foot. I will confess: when I read his name, my mind went where yours just did — boy, that name…it seems so…familiar! The sound, however, was anything but familiar to me.

What I got to hear was a mixture of very stripped down ambient electronic music a la Air supported by scorching female vocals mixed with distinctly Brazilian-influenced rhythms a la Flora Purim or Aierto Moirera. This fine combination resonates throughout all the tracks I heard, taking cues from all of these sources while never imitating to the point of confusion. Maybe I’m just a sucker for the language of Brazil: there is something smolderingly sexual to me about the sound of Portugese, particularly when blended with thundering percussion, horns, and driving bass lines. This collection’s jazzist leanings are actually rounded out through the introduction of sparse electronic meanderings — echoes, various piano structures, and the like — to create a fluid and memorable ambience.

I’m confident that this represents an awakening to some kind of music that people have been listening to for some period of time. If it doesn’t and I’m hearing something wholly unique, color me pleased and surprised. I think you, too, will find it worth listening to. Here are two of my favorites from the album, “Lele” and “Eu Pisei Na Pedra”.

If you haven't already figured it out I'm here to tell you that Bumpfoot is a phenomenal netlabel. My tastes tend more towards the "foot" side of the operation...there you have it.

Chico Correa and Electronic Band put this net gem out last October. I missed it then, but sniffing around Bumpfoot these last few days turned it up.

Esmeraldo Marques aka Chico Correa, producer, DJ and musician from Northeasth, Paraiba state - Brazil.

His productions are based on Brazilian folk melodies and rhythms such as coco, baiao, samba, carimbó mixed with eletronic stuff and audio processing.

The Chico Correa & Electronic Band's album, released in 2006, is a result of years experimenting fusion between organic and electronic music. Chico Correa & Electronic Band acts as live as a 6 musician band and a VJ. Has performed in important events in Brazil like Tim Festival and Abril Pro Rock. The ensemble consists in Chico Correa (guitar / grooveboxes / synth), Stephan (sax), Larissa Montenegro (voice), João Cass (percussion), Vitor (drums), Orlando Freitas (bass and pifano flute) and VJ Carlos Dowling.

Alone, Chico Correa works producing remixes and sound tracks. Has produced his Chico Correa & Electronic Band's album last year, co-produced brazilian group Cabruera's Sons da Paraiba album in 2005. Recently has some remixes produced for Deep Samba (Makoto Kubota) and Mio Mazda, released in 2006 by JVC.

As a DJ works with live act, mixing sounds from machines in real time, some sets are performed with a singer and a guitar player, doing eletrosamba stuff and afrobrazilian elements.
